CRPEG Bulletin (2014 October 30): T-shirt pickup

T-shirts:

CRPEG T-shirts are available for pickup at the following locations:

October 31:  B456A Room 237 (Jonathan), and

November 3: B508 Room 142B (Vince)

First come, first served.  Members are asked to wear the t-shirts to the all-staff update on Tuesday morning, November 4th, as a show of solidarity.

Printed on T-shirts:  Standing Up For Pensions

Pensions:

The announcement on the PSSA 3-year transitional coverage is a tremendous achievement and addresses a major issue, but it is only a partial solution to our pension concerns ….

  • it is only a short-term fix, and
  • it does not specify an equivalent pension for new hires

To address our concerns we are looking for long-term solutions by pursuing parallel paths with the Employer, Government and the Qualified Respondents.

CRPEG Bulletin (2014 October 14): Employee Personnel Files

With the Stand-Up of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories scheduled for November 03, now is an appropriate time to remind members that they are entitled to view their Employee File. Under Article 25 of the collective agreement, you may request to review your personnel file, in the company of a Human Resources representative. It is generally a sensible practice to review your file every few years to ensure that you know what is there and that out-of-date or obsolete personnel information has been dispensed with appropriately.

Members should also know that, under article 25.03

“Disciplinary notations will be removed from an employee’s file after a period of two (2) years provided that no occurrence of a similar nature has taken place over this time.”

CRPEG encourages its members to help AECL / CNL maintain up to date personnel files by periodically reviewing them.

To view your file, call or email your Human Resources Administrator and ask to view your Employee File.  The myAECL internal website lists all of the HR Administrators for each division or organization.  If you have difficulty finding this link, please contact one of the CRPEG Executive or stewards.  If you have difficulty obtaining an appointment to view your file, please contact your nearest CRPEG Steward.

CRPEG Bulletin (2014 October 10): Update on Maintenance of Services Agreement

CRPEG met with a Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB)-appointed mediator and AECL on Thursday October 9th to negotiate a Maintenance of Services Agreement (MSA).

The 2001 CIRB ruling declared that a strike or lockout would pose an immediate and serious danger to the safety or health of the public were AECL not to maintain operations with respect to the uninterrupted and safe production of medical isotopes.

During the previous round of collective bargaining in 2011, CRPEG and AECL agreed on an MSA which included isotopes production as essential. Now in 2014, AECL’s position is that the production of medical isotopes is no longer essential. CRPEG disagrees with AECL’s apparent about-face on this issue.

As a result the MSA has been referred to the CIRB. We do not expect a hearing date until early in 2015. A strike or lockout cannot occur until the MSA is resolved.

If AECL and CRPEG do not reach agreement on the MSA prior to November 9th, the current CRPEG strike mandate will expire.
